What is Put Away?

Put Away allows warehouse staff to assign storage locations to received inventory using a mobile device. After goods arrive and are receipted at your warehouse, they need to be moved from the receiving area to their permanent storage locations. Put Away guides you through this process, ensuring every product has an assigned location for accurate inventory tracking and efficient order fulfillment.

The feature works in two ways: you can put away items immediately after completing a goods receipt, or you can defer the task and complete it later when it's more convenient. All Put Away operations are performed using your mobile device, allowing you to work directly at the storage locations.

Why use Put Away?

  • Work at the location: Move inventory to storage using your mobile device rather than recording locations at a fixed workstation.

  • Maintain accurate inventory: Ensure all products have assigned locations so your team can find items quickly during picking and fulfillment.

  • Choose when to work: Put away items immediately after receiving them, or defer the task for later when your workflow allows.

  • Speed up data entry with scanning: Scan location barcodes to assign storage locations faster than manual entry.

Prerequisites

  • Ensure your Unleashed Warehouse Management App is connected to Unleashed.

  • Storage locations must be created in the Access Evo Warehouse Management application before they can be used in put away.

  • Items must be receipted through the Goods Receipt feature before they appear in Put Away tasks.

Important limitations

  • No partial Put Away: You must put away the full quantity to a single location. Splitting quantities across multiple locations is not currently supported.

  • No capacity warnings: The app does not warn you about insufficient location capacity. Ensure the location has adequate space before assigning inventory to it.

  • No override tracking: When you override a location, the app does not require you to enter a reason code for the change.

Choosing when to put away

After you complete a goods receipt, the Unleashed Warehouse Management App asks you to choose between putting away items now or later.

Put Away Now: Select this option to begin putting away items from the receipt immediately. The app takes you directly to the put away workflow for that order, allowing you to move items to storage right away.

Put Away Later: Select this option to create a put away task for future processing. The app returns you to the main menu, and the task becomes available when you're ready to complete it.

๐Ÿค“ Tip: Choose immediate put away for urgent items that need to be available quickly. Defer put away when receiving area capacity is limited or when other priorities require your attention first.

Put Away by order

The app's "POs" view shows all Put Away tasks that were deferred during goods receipt. Each task represents a completed receipt with items that need storage locations assigned.

Viewing Put Away tasks

Open the Put Away section from the app menu. The app displays all available Put Away orders. Each order shows:

  • Order or task ID.

  • Total number of items requiring put away.

  • Progress indicator showing items completed versus total items.

Processing a Put Away order

  1. Tap on an order from the list to view the task details.

  2. The detail screen displays all items from that receipt that need to be put away.

  3. Tap on an item to begin the put away process, see "Putting away individual items" below.

  4. After completing an item, the app automatically advances to the next item in the order.

  5. The progress indicator updates as you complete each item.

Once you've completed all items in the order, the app marks the task as complete and displays a summary showing total items put away, total units processed, and time taken to complete the task.

Put Away by items

The "By Items" view allows you to put away individual items that don't have assigned storage locations and aren't tied to a specific receipt or order. Use this workflow for items discovered during cycle counts, items moved from damaged areas, or other inventory that needs location assignment.

Viewing unassigned items

  1. Open the Put Away section from the app menu.

  2. Tap the "Unassigned" tab.

The app displays individual unassigned items that require location assignment.

Processing individual unassigned items

  1. Tap on an item from the list.

  2. Follow the Put Away process described in "Putting away individual items" below.

  3. After completing the item, you return to the unassigned items list to select another item if needed.

Unlike Put Away by Order, each item in this view is handled independently without being part of a larger task.

Putting away individual items

This process is the same whether you're working through a put away order or handling individual unassigned items.

Assigning a storage location

When you select an item, the app displays the product name, SKU, and total quantity to put away. You have two ways to assign a storage location:

  • Barcode scanning: Scan the barcode on the storage location using your mobile device. This method is faster and reduces entry errors.

  • Manual entry: Type the location code directly into the app.

The app validates that the location exists in your warehouse layout. If the location code is invalid or doesn't exist, the app displays an error message with a red border around the input field. You'll need to retry with a valid location.

๐Ÿ“ŒNote: The app does not currently support splitting quantities across multiple locations. If you need to store items in multiple locations, you'll need to complete multiple put away operations for different batches.

How put away syncs with warehouse management

Put away operations update your inventory location records automatically:

  • From Goods Receipt: When you complete a goods receipt, the app creates a put away task if you select "Put Away Later." Items appear in your put away lists until they're assigned to storage locations.

  • To inventory records: After you complete a put away operation, the app updates inventory location records immediately. This ensures your team can find items when fulfilling orders.

  • Location data: Storage locations are created and managed in the Access Evo's Warehouse Management application. These locations sync to the mobile app, where they become available during the put away process.
