Scanner Test allows you to test your mobile device's ability to scan barcodes. You can use this feature to verify that your device can reliably scan various types of barcodes, including location barcodes with different lengths and formats, for the Warehouse Management app. This is very useful for you before finalising your warehouse location code configuration or when troubleshooting scanning issues.

Why use Scanner Test?

  • Verify device capabilities: Confirm your mobile device can scan barcodes before using them in warehouse operations.

  • Test location code formats: Check whether your device can reliably scan location barcodes with your chosen prefix and separator configuration.

  • Troubleshoot scanning issues: Identify whether scanning problems are related to your device, barcode quality, or barcode format.

  • Compare device performance: Test multiple devices to ensure consistent scanning capabilities across your warehouse team.

Using Scanner Test

Step 1: Accessing the feature

  1. Open the Warehouse Management app.

  2. Tap the hamburger icon to open the menu.

  3. Select Scanner Test from the menu.

Step 2: Test a barcode

  1. On the Scanner Test screen, tap the Scan Barcode button.

  2. Your device's camera will activate.

  3. Position the barcode within the camera view.

  4. The scanner captures the barcode automatically.

Step 3: Understanding the results

If the scan is successful, the Warehouse Management app displays the scanned barcode value on screen. This confirms your device can read that particular barcode format and length.

If the scan fails or the displayed value is incorrect, this indicates:

  • Your device may have difficulty with that barcode format.

  • The barcode quality may be poor.

  • The barcode length may exceed your device's scanning capability.

When to use Scanner Test

Before configuring warehouse locations

Before finalising your location code format in Warehouse Management in Access Evo, use the Warehouse Management app's Scanner Test to verify your devices can scan location barcodes with your chosen configuration. Print a sample location code barcode and test it with all devices your warehouse team will use.

When experiencing scanning issues

If warehouse staff report scanning problems during put away, picking, or other operations, use Scanner Test to determine whether the issue is device-specific or affects all devices.

When onboarding new devices

Test new mobile devices before deploying them in your warehouse to ensure they meet your scanning requirements.

Important notes

Device-specific limitations

Different mobile device models have varying capabilities when scanning barcodes with longer character lengths. If Scanner Test shows inconsistent results across devices, consider:

  • Simplifying your location code format with shorter prefixes and fewer separators.

  • Standardise device models that reliably scan your barcode formats.

  • Improving barcode print quality and size.

Location code configuration

Remember that once products are put away to warehouse locations, you can no longer edit the location configuration. Always test your location code format with Scanner Test before saving your warehouse configuration in Access Evo's Warehouse Management.
